On the other side of the lens - Rankin Live Shoot

During August and September, well known photographer Rankin held his Retrospective Exhibition at The Truman Gallery in Brick Lane, London. During this exhibition he invited members of the public to register on the Rankin Live website to get the chance to have their portrait taken by him and become part of the exhibition, and subsequently be featured on the Rankin Live website. Chris was one of the 1500 people selected to participate, and it made for an interesting experience to be on the other side of the lens. Colleague Gaynor Edwards of Torpedo Juice accompanied Chris on the day to take a couple of snaps from the sidelines and to make sure he had done his hair properly.

Images featured in Calumet Focus Holland

International Pro-photo Equipment dealer Calumet Photographic approached Chris to see if they could use one of his images in the Dutch Autumn edition of Focus, their regular industry newsletter and price list. To illustrate the lighting effect of Ring-flash, an image of the models Sasha Larner and Alex Wilcox was selected to feature alongside the Bowens ringlite converter.

Ring-flash gives a very flat and intense light to the subject, and Chris often uses this technique when shooting fashion or contemporary portraiture in his studio.
